First Major SpACE-Net Event: Spatial Audio Workshop

SpACE-Net are happy to announce their first major UK workshop to be held on Thursday 25th January 2007, 10.00-17.30, in the Music Research Centre, University of York, York, UK.

The purpose of the workshop is to further SpACE-Net's core objective of building a strong and active community of spatial audio researchers, practitioners and artists. It will:

  • bring delegates up-to-date with world-leading advances in spatial audio research
  • showcase compositions exploiting manipulation of the spatial attributes of sound
  • provide an opportunity for targeted networking between potential collaborators
  • allow delegates to steer SpACE-Net's future directions

We are also delighted to welcome our keynote speaker, Ville Pulkki from the Helsinki University of Technology, Laboratory of Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing, who will be talking about and demonstrating his work relating to SIRR and DirAC spatial audio technologies. We have also commissioned three new spatial audio works for this event:
  • 'Corresponding' by Suk-Jun Kim
  • 'Osseointegration' by Gordon Delap, with sound synthesis by Stefan Bilbao
  • A site specific installation/interpretation of 'Swash' by David Prior/liminal
Additionally Soundfield UK, makers of the renowned Soundfield microphone, will be talking about and presenting some of their latest technologies, including their new A-format microphone, recently announced at AES San Francisco.
