Why SpACE-Net?

SpACE-Net, originally funded by the UK's EPSRC, was set up to bring together a community of spatial audio researchers, practitioners and artists, drawn from the fields of science, audio engineering and the arts.

SpACE-Net activities were open to all network members, and registration for membership was free of charge. The initial network partners, who directed the network, were:

What happened?

SpACE-Net was launched in January 2006. Activities included:

  • the commissioning of musical compositions which specifically exploit the spatial attributes of sound, to encourage artists to work in this area and to demonstrate what can be achieved
  • hosting performances of the commissioned works
