SpACE-Net was launched in January 2006. Activities included:

• the commissioning of musical compositions which specifically exploit the spatial attributes of sound, to encourage artists to work in this area and to demonstrate what can be achieved
• hosting performances of the commissioned works
• workshops to exchange ideas and to encourage new collaborations and formulate new project proposals
• research symposia to disseminate expert knowledge and to encourage discussion
• developing this website to provide a focus for everyone working with spatial audio; to promote and document events; to promote spatial audio projects; and to make available recordings, software tools, and information about network partners and members
• enabling and organising other relevent activities as they arise
